About this item: Artisans of the Zenu Community, an ancient culture of northwest Colombia, weave this fantastic shoulder bag. The generously sized bag is crafted from caña flecha fibers, a neotropical grass native to Colombia and Mexico. Only natural dyes are used to color the fibers in shades of terracotta, black and off-white. About our Artist: The Zenu are members of an ancient culture located in northwest Colombia. Women weavers braid by hand, and men sew braids together using a pedal machine. The job has been specialized according to the stages of the process, where groups of families attend to a specific task: cultivating, collecting and processing fibers; weaving, dyeing and sewing. Everybody contributes with heritage skills acquired by their family tradition over time. The master weavers share a social vision that promotes sustainable and environmentally friendly development in conjunction with the development of social projects. This is how they have achieved access to drinking water and continuity in the provision of energy services for the community. An additional effort has been made to send their young people to the university and other educational institutions. The study at a unique ethnocultural school in the area with a training program that promotes the ancestral artisanal and cultural transmission of the Zenu people....
